With a grand victorian facade almost untouched since it was originally bult in 1894, the 1,200 seater Wolverhampton Grand Theatre remains one of the main big stages in the West Midlands with a year long line up of spectacular musicals, big name plays and dramas, excellent children’s theatre and a star studded annual Pantomime

It is funded by Wolverhampton City Council.

Best Seat In the House

Our Best Seat in the House section below provides a breakdown of what seats you should bag at the box office, and which ones you should avoid like the plague.  These are user submitted by real audience members.  Instructions about how to submit your own seat rating at the very bottom of this article.

General Info about seating at this venue

Access the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre seating plan here

Like most Victorian theatres, the Grand Theatre was designed for a population with a slightly smaller body mass than the current Black Country physique, and it was also built at a time when discomfort was part and parcel of daily life.

However the theatre was reduced from its original 2,000 seats to 1,200 which has greatly enhanced the comfort for patrons,  The theatre also had a major refurbisment in the 90s, and although in our opinion it compleletely ripped the heart out of the special atmosphere once held in the front of house area, it managed to hang on to the magic inside the auditorium, which still feels, well, er – Grand!

Our tips for best seats are to get yourself front and centre of the Dress Circle.

Our ‘Approach with Caution’ advice is for the seats in the Upper Circle.  When you’re finally up there it becomes quite clear why these upper tier balconies are often referred to as ‘the God’s’.  westmidlandstheatre.com thinks they they need to replace the little red binoculars with small cannisters of oxygen up there.
